The only thing the prosecution has shown is that the heroes party, at the behest of the kingdom, intentionally attacked a dragon, in her lair, to aquire the treasure she was guarding. At no point did she attack anyone who heeded her warnings, and has failed so far to prove she is a danger to anyone outside of the cavern to which she is magically bound.
Great point, I brought the same point up last chapter. Also this assassination is at the behest of the King against one of its citizens. Remember you have to have at least human intelligence AND be a citizen of the kingdom to be taken to this court. So really what this is is an assassination attempt orchestrated by the King against one of its citizens to steal its treasure
What should now be happening is the defense lawyer closing down this case, and filing their own case against the kingdom for trespassing, attempted murder, and an attempt to defraud the Goddesses Court of Justice, or whatever combination legalese words that that would be.
That wouldn't work because the scales are based on public / jury opinion and none of the jury consider attacking a dragon to be home invasion. Racism being part of what make the system not work is exactly why he was brought in.

It may not have been obvious, but the scales have already shifted back to a more neutral position after the Hero's party was proven to have lied. Also I think the Dragon's ability to shift into a humanoid form will also likely make her a more relatable character. True she is still a dragon, but she is also a young looking girl defending her contractually obligated treasure from a greedy home invaders that have all lied during their testimony.

Well yeah, because the MC is using a clever strategy to get around the racism and dragon prejudice, if he just went in going for the 'home invasion' argument straight away, the jury would have dismissed him as a weirdo or a madman, which is why he has to make his argument more indirect.

And I'm not saying he should use my exact wording to form his arguments. Only that he should finish wrapping things up sooner then later. I just can't help but feel the kingdom is going to try a second end run while the dragon was forced to appear in court.

They can't. Even the Gods can't harm people while in court unless rules were broken, it's why even the Demon King can be sued there. As long as the jury is on her side, the dragon is safe.
What they COULD do is steal all her shit she was guarding while at court.

Nah, while you are mostly correct, all participants are safe while the court is deliberating the case. They only loose that immunity once the verdict has been handed down. A small but important difference.
This is a farce through and through. They attacked the dragon out of greed, not concern for their safety. There a plausible conspiracy to use Lord Whatshisnut's death as an excuse to further their false narrative. There might even be a third string to the Kingdom's plan to use the Dragon's enforced appearance in court to make another attempt to steal the treasure.
