The first one is a classic - CFs grow up closely, get conscious of each other and increase distance, then start getting close again. It's so expectable that I think the author might do something else.
For example, since they're not exactly attracted to each other, they could maybe start dating these classmates, go out on double dates together, and become very close neighbors just like their parents.
