Probably explains why she shrugged him off when he offered to be rivals as a kid, then, and why she was suddenly so different at the card games shop. She didn't really understand what she was getting into with all the perfection nonsense and only stopped seeing it as a nuisance around the same point she realized she was all alone and needed that one thing, even a rivalry, to ground her.
