Ok so the fact no one explains how impactful his stuff is is stupid, though I guess it's like, the opening plot - the gormless idiot MC rolls everyone in magic because he has no idea how insane his magic control actually is.

That his "common sense" was so bad to start with does make a modicum of sense, tho. In chapter 1.1, he mentions that he makes a living off of magic tool design commissions for workshops, and that it was probably fairly basic design work that his father had to beg for, in order for his kid to just have something to do. Presumably he views his childhood inventions in a similar manner - that they were fairly basic, and simply was so sheltered to be unaware how impactful his designs were. Assuming his own household used said inventions and he saw it, he probably believed that they simply wanted him to feel good about what little stuff he could do.

The big point of stupidity is that an inventor of that caliber has little business being on the battlefield, imo. Like it gets called out that the stuff he makes is society-changing, with the only reason he's even there being that a certified magic researcher has to spend at least 5 years in the military, but it's just a really silly societal rule when you consider that magic has uses everywhere, something something cross disciplinary advancements in technology. Like they really can't make an exception for the guy who made literally all modern magic devices as a kid. It's probably mostly a plot excuse to get him into combat and kick ass.

At least his strategic importance and that he'll probably be targeted by enemy nations will give him reasons for fights to come to him, so the story gets to start rolling with action.

Don't think this set up can pull off a shadow eminence where MC is perpetually misunderstanding

Bro you invented literally every household item as a CHILD. How do you think so little of yourself? If Einstein came from a family of famous soldiers, he'd still be freaking Einstein. Though he'd actually have an excuse for low self-esteem because Einstein didn't invent a centuries worth of technological revolution when he was a pre-teen. 😭 This is so painful. You've already done amazing things as a child that no one in your family could've accomplished and just proved your amazing in the field of magic period (even if lower than your family of super amazing mages you're at least better than most people) AND we know your dad constantly sung your praises and acknowledged your worth. Where is this low self esteem coming from? Please have a flashback later on of bullying from the brother or grandfather or something.

Yep.
Currently, it seems like the MC's lack of common sense, and lack of self-esteem, derives purely from the author's bullshit need to shoehorn a genius MC, who also gets sung praises and cheers from everyone around him.

I.E: This is basically every child's fantasy, to constantly be told how good and precious they are, while also truly being good and precious. It's a work that panders to kids.
...And as I typed that out, it really snuffed any desire I had to continue reading this one, meh.

elephant in the room but... displaying amazing control over something you have never personally produced??? that's not 'theory' anymore thats just plot induced god-mode 😅
I guess his family appreciated having him as a practice dummy so he had to learn how to release all that enormous magic out again

I'm actually amazed how our protagonist is told he lacks common sense right in the first chapter and then they still avoid telling him what exactly it is he has the wrong idea about. They could have told him the issue right there at the exam site. Whether he'd actually believe it is another matter entirely, but they didn't even try. I can already envision it: he'll regularly get told he has no common sense and will need to do his push-ups, but he won't actually learn and will believe he's useless for most of the story, because they'll be teaching him common sense as vaguely as humanly possible in a "Figure it out yourself" way.
Yeah, that's how it goes in these types of stories. It is infuriating to see the MC being a complete ignorant dumbfuck who would perform the biggest mental gymnastics to avoid facing reality, but what is truly beyond insane is that no one around the MC will ever explain things properly. I kinda prefer a little bit the series where the other ppl actually work against the MC, finding out how OP they are, because for those I can at least hate on those characters.
Either way, I'm dropping this, good luck guys, you already know what to expect
