I feel like Victor and Martin are the traitors. I get the feeling those two are working together to get rid of Leon. and it seems like Rossweisse already sees Leon more as her husband than as a prisoner :meguu: BTW, Leon should be grateful that Rossweisse didn’t rape him :dogkek:

Leon already had the opportunity to leave while Ross was out. He won't leave now that the bonds are stronger than ever.

The art for the future panel where they say their goodbye on the outskirts of the empire before Leon starts his quest for revenge better be something special. The way it was written in the novel hit a sweet spot for me. Leon being taken prisoner, having kids, becoming a father, falling in love, but then facing the conundrum of longing for home while still loving the life he built — missing his past life and friends while knowing he can’t fully return to who he was. Then Ross doubting herself and worrying if he'll ever come back and not being sure of the future.

Lemme guess why he accepted the mission, he's jealous of Leon's achievements?

Bingo. Victor was always second best when compared to Leon and it ate away at his core which made the decision for Victor super easy. Leon knew that Victor was the traitor years ago all along, after realizing only the two of them knew the strike team locations that were leaked during the Silver Dragon battle, so Victor thought he had planned everything perfectly.

Over the past three years, Leon secretly returned to the Empire (upcoming chapters) and carefully baits Victor into exposing himself. Victor tried manipulating Leon into framing Martin, but Leon saw through the scheme because of small details — especially Victor’s ivory guitar pick, which Leon realized had been crafted from the same enchanted ivory weapon (know for penetrating armor) used to stab him years earlier during the Silver Dragon raid. Leon concludes Victor kept it as a trophy out of jealousy and resentment over always being second best.

Leon also reveals he outplayed Victor completely: Martin’s “death” was staged using Rebecca’s modified gun loaded with blanks. After Leon tells Rebecca to get rid of Martin's body and after she leaves, Victor takes the gun Leon intentionally put on the table and puts it up to his head and pulls the trigger and only hears a loud "click" of a loaded blank. The obvious is now officially confirmed without having to say a single word. Rebecca and Martin walk in after the whole thing and Rebecca hands Leon a different gun that's loaded with live rounds. Victor’s makes a final attempt to threaten Leon with the Empire which obviously fails, and under the pressure of death, he breaks down begging for mercy like a coward. Leon coldly rejects him, stating that Victor doesn’t regret betrayal — only getting caught — and executes him with a gunshot.
