First the first page has me acting unwise, then I get to see the 1st Knight Commander pissed off.
As soon as a demented editor from my home country finds this, I am buying everything.

So after all that hand-wringing by some readers over the setting, turns out it's as simple as corruption and complacency, with a little bit of lack of awareness by most folk as to the real nature of the knight commander position (note the common thinking of the kids in the lecture).

Add it to Lienna being a bit airheaded, which is a prime candidate for becoming an overworked and abused black company middle manager trope, and it pretty much adds up. I still maintain that the setting was sufficient before though, the Knight Commander is clearly a figure upper echelons would want to keep in reserve.

I like that the story explains what happened with Claire and probably what she did after the attack without actually showing it, but using it to contrast Lienna in the kid's lecture. Lean and efficient storytelling.

Hmm, I don't know.

I know he's kinda said to be a lazy boss (as opposed to him in chapter 1 where he doesn't seem terrible), but it feels lame if everything bad about the Ardian knights right now can be attributed to just one guy.
I mean, it ISN'T just him. He just had the highest authority. They did also note that stuff the subordinates were supposed to do were also getting pushed onto her. Everyone in the knights genuinely shat the bed on their work ethic, and she was there literally holding up the pillars and keeping them straight.

Gulp, is all I will say about these first few pages :pepela:

Hmm, is this a Mashle situation? Knight commanders are supposed to be able to wield both magic and the sword, yet Lienna maxed out strength :thonk:

Maybe this is was got her banned behind the desk as well (although it could simply be because she's too gullible as well)

Damn, I really hope their stay in the dragon's stomach doesn't come to a premature end. They haven't even had a child yet :meguuusad:

Or if it does, I hope they can return after taking care of the war(?)

Elf Onee-san keeps being awesome.
Best case, she can just take care of things and Amon can use magic to have Lienna see it, so she can rest assured.

Thanks for the upload!

I’m still so curious how there’s two Amons, one inside who’s very chill, and one outside who’s very Machiavellian

I mean there’s still the issue of the main trio being an abused tool, the brilliant but misused genius, and the worn out WMD. They all have a lot to talk about and figure out before they leave the dragon.

Plus leaving the dragon isn’t gonna be easy

So it's a problem of corruption and complacency. I'm gonna guess that the current Knight Commander was chosen because she wasn't very smart and was somewhat of a pushover, which allowed the Ugly Noble to take advantage by dumping all his work onto her, which created a spiral of workplace abuse where everyone dumped their work on her. However, that's not to say she was incompetent or unqualified; rather, she had the personality and skills befitting of a Knight Commander in battle as opposed to a Knight Commander during peace times.

Bro sucks so much he is even bad at running away!

With that said, he is not wrong, in just a day they lost their main fighting force, their knight commander, the replacement of their knight commander, and their frontline city literally exploded

Honestly can't even blame him for concluding that the kingdom was done for, specially if all they had left to wage war is... well him

Luckily elf mommy is back

She's like, "I was gone for five minutes. I set everything up perfectly. You had a freaking warrior goddess to protect the country. How did you screw literally everything up this badly??"

Honestly, it's kinda wacky just how fast they went through knight commanders. Rei's most recent position as knight commander was the 13th, while Lienna was the 17th. In the time she met Rei the elf as a kid and trainee (she was still commander while she was in knight academy), they managed to chew through three others between Rei retiring and Lienna taking the position. Just... what the actual hell were they doing?

”If we cannot produce Launcelots, humanity falls into two sections: Those who can deal in blood and iron, but cannot be meek in hall, and those who are meek in hall and useless in battle. For the third class, who are both brutal in peace and cowardly in war need not here be discussed.”
