I don't think this is an "annoying drama" or anything like that. @mrclamp and @Raphael_gt are right. Read their comments.

Always the same complaints and whining when there's a minimal narrative development. Jeez, apply a bit more of critical thinking when you are reading.

And if you can no longer stand this manga after the author has committed the sin of offending you with his artistic choices, you know where the door is.
Thank you for the translation! :hearts:

Fuck you fuck you fuck you author

No, they don't deserve some right now... in fact, I would ban any sexual activities including them for an entire year for that !!

Some of y’all need to remember that these are 13 maybe 14 year old kids. Girl’s been crushing for years now and just had her whole game plan and existence crushed by seeing that photo of him at the beach with another girl (in super close proximity, in a way she never has without him flinching) She assumed he’d never build a close relationship to anyone but her, but as she said last chapter, he’s changed since they got into high school. This kid is desperate now to try and salvage her one sided feelings at any cost, cause again, she’s just a kid. She’s obviously gonna be selfish at that age especially now that she knows that her crush likes another girl without him even admitting to it yet. She’s been fighting a losing battle ever since she moved away in middle school and this is probably gonna be her last stand. 🪦

That's actually a solid point... still hurts my kokoro, tho :meguuusad:

While I generally tend to agree these types of developments aren't necessary for a plot like this, if taken in the context that this has now happened and we have to follow along then I can genuinely see things from her perspective.

Our MC has shown that he has an aversion to being around people. She just assumed (for better or worse) that he would continue to be isolated and no one would even try approaching him. She stayed at arm's length recognizing that he had hang ups of being around people too, including her. It isn't her fault, it is just the way he is.

Then, when seeing that someone else invaded his personal space where she WANTED to be, she threw everything at him desperate for his attention. She wants to be the one next to him and with him so it makes sense she would act this way. Is it right? Maybe not...but also they are high school kids. Can't say high school age makes the right decisions all the time. Heck...I am an adult and I don't make the right decisions.
exactly this, people seem to forget that sometimes the “unnecessary” arcs like this and late added losing heroines arent always for some extra drama but to help flesh out the main character of the story and to help make them feel human. i thought she was a great addition and the people complaining just have too much fatigue to notice when something is genuinely good

It's not a lack of critical thinking. It's that we waited a month for basically 2 pages. The rest of the pages were covered in the previous chapters. You are allowed to complain when things happen out of nowhere. Does complaining mean we hate the work as a whole? No, but instead of tackling his backstory in an organic way the author decided to follow the average tiresome tropes that every piece of media in this medium follows. Instead of something original we got this, and to top it off the new content that we did get was 2 pages. It's completely justified to be annoyed by that, and to dismiss valid criticism because you are willing to put up with waiting another month to have any actual narrative progress is belittling the thoughts of others. Some of the complains are unfounded yeah, but just like those people can just stop reading the manga. You can just stop reading their comments, and just allow them a place to vent their frustrations at the developments that have happened. Stop grandstanding.

Bro you know this girls gonna get her heart slam dunked into a woodchipper when we get a whole flashback chapter on her unrequited love
It’s so over. I like her more than annoying dirty girl (a girl who respects your boundaries and sensitivities? Sign me up) but author huffed enough hand sanitizer to lose their sense of taste I guess

And thats the thing sure she is putting him on a rough spot, but thats how it is and way more at that age. Dramas like this are annoying most of the time, for me Ive been liking it so far.

Even if it is normal to act like this at her age. It still does not justify her trying to monopolize him like this. She has already had plenty of time with him at the festival. Now what she is doing is coming off as guilt tripping him into staying with her. Potentially isolating him off more, because she only ever sees him during summer break. What about after summer break? From her position she is making him "Blow off a friend" so she can continue to monopolize him. He showed the respect to her for prioritizing their plans to go to the festival together, but now she isn't respecting his plans he makes after the festival. It comes off as unbelievably selfish from anyone else's pov. She is not showing him the same respect he showed her, and on top of that guilt tripping him into staying with her, and blowing off his other friend.
They made plans to go to the festival together. It's kind of rude to ditch someone you went to an event with in order to spend time with someone else, unless that was the expectation going in. This is basic courtesy, not "monopolization" or "guilt tripping" or whatever else you are projecting onto the situation.

I don't really care that they did the childhood friend things, to be honest it isn't like particularly poorly done here imo, it provides a bit of drive but also gives usa very clear way to see just how far he's come in such a short time. I really just don't like that I felt like I was reading the exact same chapter I had already done months ago

I can see that a lot of people don't like the direction the story's going right now, but I think this is actually pretty good. Tsuzuri's a good foil to Nishino, and I do think that she plays an important role in the story.

At the beginning, Nishino is constantly pushing boundaries, and it can be easy to interpret that as her being rude and inconsiderate. To a certain extent, you might think "shouldn't she be more respectful of his feelings and germaphobia?" Like, she comes off as really insensitive sometimes!

But Tsuzuri's introduction shows why that's not the correct answer. Tsuzuri is respectful of his feelings and of his germaphobia; she makes sure not to touch him. But while she's able to become friends with him like that, we ultimately see that that's not what he needed. He needed someone that would push his boundaries like Nishino does.

Tsuzuri's character does a good job of showing that and making that clear. Even if losing heroines can be a bit disappointing or annoying, I think that it's important to remember that this is a story first and foremost, and Tsuzuri is a massive asset to the story's themes.

He never planned to ditch her. He was not leaving right away he even said he will wait until 8 because he is with his other friend. Nobody is projecting anything.

100% this, but it still utterly gutting to watch Tsuzuri being supportive and absolute sweetheart being slowly drug through the wringer like this - arguably BECAUSE she's such an absolute sweetheart. Like she doesn't deserve any of this.

They made plans and she came all the way from the place she moved to and got dressed up too. But they weren't planning on hanging out the whole night - she was going to take the train back home.

I'm not blaming any of the characters; they are all very realistic with understandable motivations
Tsuzuri was too kind to push Nakayama, he was too used to keeping people away and as we saw from him distancing himself in middleschool, didn't want to be close and cause her difficulty so the possibility of them dating never seriously crossed his mind and he's reeling. She has a crush, she was willing to sacrifice having a "normal" relationship to be close to him, deal and navigate around all his shit... only to find she's been left behind.
Yes she's being selfish

Nakayama is not even remotely close to being emotionally equipped to deal with what just happened. His best friend - his only friend - the person he non-romantically cares about the most in the world (before Nishino came along) is now dropping a bombshell on him he never expected or saw coming. All while he's navigating dealing with a crush of his own. He just never even considered Tsuzuri in that light and now is left with a hard choice - and utter lacking the social skills to have any hope of navigating it without a lot of destruction.

The writing of the characters is good, they are understandable with consistent and understandable motiviations.

The angst isn't at the characters, or even the writing quality. It most that the mangaka created Tsuzuri pretty much just to suffer, is dragging out her suffering, and she's such a cinnamonbun its really hard to watch her get put through it.

Bro I'm just tired of pretending just because the characters are depicted to be teenagers that I'm supposed to put up with shitty plot. This is not even about teenagers being unreasonable, this is straight up adding cliched plot that has frustrating execution.

Chapter 14 showed Arata's flashback, which, as people have already pointed out, shows the same story as this chapter. A simple way to address some of the complaints would have been to make Arata have flashbacks to the childhood friend earlier than chapter 14. Just make him remember something like "Tsuzuri wasn't so noisy." and "Tsuzuri never got so close to me." Make him remember the books that they enjoyed together when Nishino showed interest in books. He doesn't need to be regretting his past or anything like that. Just having Tsuzuri be part of the story from the protagonist's point of view would have reduced the whiplash from her sudden appearance. She wouldn't have even needed to be explicitly named in his internal monologue – just seeing her in his flashbacks would have been enough.
