I was wondering if it was that or a failed mitosis sort of deal, where the child was visually identical to his mom but was technically male due to being intersex. Though that would be too much unnecessary detail for a side character wouldn't it?

willing to bet the bug manga is set in the future, moth girl there is Kiri's Daughter ("my mom works in the movies" when asked how she has so much money) and the one who looks like Taya is her Daughter with Haru (since you know, Uni aged, attending mixers, she looks like a carbon copy of Taya but she has Haru's hair exactly, but black.) and either way that's such a massive brain play that I SALUTE YOU NEITHEGOAT, YOU ABSOLUTELY COOKED
