Poor Adachi her insecurities are gonna be the death of her one day.

So it's a good thing that Shimamura is having this conversation and setting boundaries and expectations of what constitutes acceptable jealousy and outright mistrust of a partner.

the granularity of Shimamura's musings continues to sell this for me in a way I find riveting.

I definitely thought at the outset that it was supremely pseudo-intellectual and came off as "pontification for its own sake". I clearly no longer think that, but every new installment I'm reminded of how I've come to really enjoy how introspective she gets...especially as Adachi remains a comparative black-box of insight (at least in the monologue sense).

It's refreshing, having someone think this much about what's going on in her life, but also not spinning mentally and going nowhere or resolving anything in 25 pages. While still keeping it realistic to who it is having all these thoughts.

this is really the appeal of the entire story, for me, and what you describe is highlighted even more in the novels. Shimamura is always introspective but watching her shift from a passive to proactive actor in her own life, and watching her develop her thoughts into such strong beliefs regarding Adachi is very humanly beautiful, in a way

I'm way too poly for this shit... watching the way these two talk and navigate jealousy and each other's boundaries feels like horror. A lot of the time, I think that's intentional — that one breakdown double panel will live in my mind forever holy shit — but then there's chapters like this, where I can't actually tell whether this is supposed to be good improvement or not! I suppose it's certainly better than keeping secrets but it is still a nightmare scenario for me to imagine a partner where I have to navigate a conversation like that in order to keep the peace.

Sometimes this manga goes from adorable…to feeling like I’m watching my neighbor, struggling to train his dog not to bark or bite anyone who gets too close to them.

He fails completely, tries to calm him down, and then he looks at me defeated, waiving weakly from far away.

Still one of the most grounded romance I've read. I thought Adachi is gonna thow another tantrum but she is definitely progressing. I hope she can open up to other people more, get some friends of her own, and so she may understand where Shimanura is coming from.

I think the way Shimamura now doesnt hesitate nearly as much and actually tells adachi of her plans when going out to meet someone, and not stepping around the topic because she knows how sensitive adachi is, is really good

It shows shes not stepping on eggshells anymore and is treating adachi normally, shes trusting her a lot more with not freaking out about normal things, and adachi also is not freaking out about normal things either.

You gotta remember, if this was 30 chapters ago and shimamura told her she was gonna meet with a friend, adachi wouldve either had another phone call break down moment or followed them like a stalker or something (not actually, but she would be doing a lot of mental gymnastics)

+ And also how easy it was for her to mention that she was in a relationship to tarumi. Instead of spending pages monologuing just "tarumis perspective of me will change and uncertainty and talking to people and adachi and etc etc"
She's serious about Adachi
