This is the point in the story where things really start to pick up. There's an entire arc that takes place just on this ship, before they even arrive.

How does shiina have better karma than chiba? did he already start doing his prayers? why didnt they show that instead of a random nightmare...

So hear me out guys. What if they stay on the boat having random adventures that dont really advance the plot... for years in real time... over a decade maybe. And the author can take breaks for months at a time. Then if they get the timing right, the characters get off the boat on to a magical elf island and the author dies.

Could be pretty nostalgic.
