And frankly Rembrandt has only betrayed people to advance his company, what could he possibly gain from betraying the man who saved his entire family and has three humanoid nukes as his closest aides?

He's not a murderhobo or some edgyboi, he's a ruthless corporate executive who has brain rot when it comes to his daughters and wants to look out for his future son in law.

It's also worth keeping in mind that the backstabbing part, at least that we were shown, is not in the novel or anime, it was added to the manga to explain why someone would have such a strong hatred for rembrandt to attack his more or less innocent family, so how canon it is to his actual personality must be kept in mind.

The adaptation is good, first season skips alot and due to it usually has a different tone because it focuses more on the action and comedy aspects, still more or less using exact dialogue, but the middle stuff that isn't in it gives it a faster pace than it arguably should., second season not nearly as much and is much better as a adaptation for it imo, but all anime will have some skips, this anime goes all the way to the end of the upcoming arc, considering the pace of the manga the anime is probably 6+ months ahead, possibly as much as a year ahead.
Specifically, the spoiler below is how long it carries on, technically counts as a spoiler so my advice is to just watch the anime but...

Makoto is not a great merchant. But that's "not great" in the sense of "not kowtowing the other merchants who (aside from Makoto) own the markets". Essentially, the other merchants dislike him because he's not playing subservient to their market monopoly/cartel.

The original author wants to criticize Makoto for "not being a great merchant" -- while somehow missing the fact that Makoto simply doesn't have to play by their rules at all. (For one, Makoto owns his entire supply chain: raw ingredients, processing, transportation -- he doesn't need to cooperate with any one else in the business.)

Original author is kind of a fool.

If anything, Rembrandt is probably starting to wonder if backstabbing the main merchant association might be the more profitable play here instead.
He knows Kuzunoha is stronger than he lets on and all three of his direct attendants can wipe out towns singlehandedly. He's also aware that he has an unknown number of demihumans at his beck and call, many of whom are the equivalent of high level adventurers themselves, some of which also have rare skills and abilities. And that's just taking his direct man power into account.
Kuzunoha has shown aptitudes for logistics with his secretive method of stocking his stores so consistently (the mist gates) and a talent for finding rare commodities (the fruits and Dwarven gear). If he decided to just deal with the stick-in-the-mud members of the association through Rembrandt, Rembrandt himself could use the opportunity to crush his competitors and gain a larger market share for himself and his would-be son-in-law with their many exotic and high quality goods.

Less a fool and more a Japanese sensibility to it. Being an island nature, Japanese culture favors not rocking the boat. In that sense, Makoto isn't great on account of rocking the boat through insensitivity and lack of awareness.

Of course, on base facts, Makoto doesn't even need to run his shop. It's more a courtesy to the areas where he frequents, a method for spying, and cover so that he stands out less overall. He can claim the foods and personal affects he recreationally indulges in are just products from his merchant business. Thinking about it further, it's also a way to keep his troublesome subordinates occupied, which is probably the bigger benefit.

it's a critic on the hyumans that's why Makoto gets mad as fuck as being treated like that, he pretty much think what does this POS think he is (this is his boiling point with hyumans, from this point onwards he pretty much is like hyumans=shit goddess until at least 2 more arcs), then the guy says to him that even if he tries to solve this with violence his store is doomed, he was bluffing the F*CK out though, the moment the town turns to flames and gets his sorry ass saved by Kuzunoha's workers he pretty much realizes he pissed the wrong person and Rembrandt laughs at his face for that

Ah yes, Kuzunoha Company is so bad. Let's see, the Merchant Guild has issues with Kuzunoha because he talked with VIP clients (who actually were the ones to approach him first, but who would believe that), he delegates his capable employees to boring meeting instead of going himself, he employs capable staff regardless of their race, he makes high quality products and charges them at fair prices, and he doesn't flaunt his backers' names to solve his problems. Truly, what an awful company with a terrible boss...

while his medicine and "vitamins" sells to all public pretty much making the nobles, commoners and demi-humans get a better quality of life too. you pretty much sums up why Makoto gets so affected by pretty much being reprimanded for not playing corrupt merchant by a hyuman, like he genuinely doesn't understand why he's being treated like that and being treated as a child, which he kinda is (a teenager), but he got too used to being spoiled by his people so it kinda hurt him more

not just one merchant, but a lot of the merchant guilds senior people there. Only thing is manga is making look the merchant guild master a lot better than how it happened in the anime or the WN, which I'm not much of a fan, because...

the merchant guildmaster goes full bully on Makoto thanks to his naivete and for how much he gets looked down upon here is the MAIN reason he doesn't give 2 sh!t for hyumans from this point forward, he rarely cares about his students too (which is kind of a plot point in the future for Shiki too as he was previously a hyuman and he feels empathy for the poor lads) I could go on, but it's just like when mini-tomoe gets k!lled and Makoto k!lls his first hyuman

He only looked soft here because he was interacting with his good friend, Rembrandt. He was just complaining to his buddy.

I'm sure we will see his full stern mode like in the anime once he is actually talking to MC.

The anime is pretty enjoyable, but it does cut out or speed through a significant amount of material. For example, the majority of the stuff going on in Makoto's realm gets reduced or cut out.
