The only reason there was any debate about Alex being the same or not is the fact they've been bathing together. So there was some possibility of him legit being a dude, but at this point it's also obvious Alex is just a girl using some genderbend magic for political reasons or whatever.

I just cannot see Alex being a guy in this manga.
Alex is drawn like a girl crossdressing as a guy in my opinion.
Maybe some case of having to pretend to be male due to the position of being a noble's heir.

I suppose you have a point there. The direct translation was "THAT IMPLANT ANNOUNCEMENT’S VOICE…!" which did not entirely make sense since no one had an implant and just "ANNOUNCEMENT’S VOICE" was not very descriptive. To me it sounded like a Bitching Betty or EVA, but not everyone would get that C&C reference (even though it was one of the finest games series ever made). RIP Tim Curry

They are there to conquer the dungeon and loot the treasure which will hopefully include something to cure Marie's death curse.

To everyone else: I did say at the beginning of the volume that there were some WTF!? moments coming up and this was one of them.
