Unlike in the USA and other places that have lower standards, Japan has incredibly strict chemical regulations about residues on apparel, so you never need to worry about an event like the jeans that gave acid burns to their wearer happening. Similarly, they have a very high level of meticulousness in offered goods presentation, and generally Japanese are also fastidious, so they keep their stores (and merchandise) clean, as well.

In short: It's not a concern in Japan. It's another "US eggs are coated in salmonella, Japanese eggs are not"-type situation.
