Aside from the god being first introduced as menacing from the start, then being revealed to be kind then having another twist with them now being the villain, I find the main conflict of the story kinda strange and interesting.
Like, Hinata main goal is to not be an ogre anymore so she can love Naori all day every day but it's pretty obvious that her being an ogre doesn't make her love for her less and vice versa. It's the opposite, it's because she's an ogre that they began this relationship and can stay together. No, the reason why they can't be together is not because she's an ogre, it's everything that surround them, the obvious racist conflict between human and ogre, the bigots and the people they are bigoted against. So yeah, Hinata's conflict is less about if she should love Naori than her issue with her internnalized racism. The story make it really clear that no, Hinata should not become a human, it will solve nothing, this conflict doesn't exist. The problem in this story is, well, society.

The god succs the head ogre and becomes rejuvenated for another stretch of time, allowing more ogres to be born so the god has a constant source of food. I think they're setting it up that the god is the source of the curse. Funnily enough, if that ends up being the case, then the final message of the series is that if you kill God, then lesbians can finally have their happy ending.

When your gods are homophobic, kill your gods. It's JRPG logic.:finnawoke:

Unfortunately there's the whole balance of nature thing. Notarou deserved to be spared, this older thing is just a pillar, typical standard-issue weasely bigoted...

More LGBTQ fiction should finish with an "ATTACK AND DETHRONE GOD" arc

Whilst the curse is clearly like 90% social contract and "the real monster is racism" etc. How does that work for the alcohol restrictions? Food is a big part of human lives and is like to see Hinata's reaction to tasting some proper food for once, it'd also reinforce the idea that she's with Naori because she wants to be, not out of necessity to eat.
Can Hinata remain an Ogre and regain the ability to eat food independently and for herself?
