Lana and Isabelle are the true goats of the series, always being there for Monica when she needed help the most. 10/10 friend/wife materials.

because his negative emotion towards her is not out malice but of jealousy and the feeling of betrayal. he is from a royal family and have a brother (if I remembered correctly) who is great at magic so he is prideful, monica being reserved probably didn't share anything to him something like magic theory, so their friendship steam down to bernie being the one sharing all kind of stuff and monica doing all the listening while practicing alone. monica revealing she became a sage is like a splash of a cold bucket of water to his pride and their friendship. image the pressure he got from all of this.

this chapter showed that he still think monica as a friend its just mixed with a lot of negative emotions, he wanted to beat her in something to salvage a bit of his pride.

Bernie may be an a**hole but he is not an idiot.

Monica is one of the seven sages (meaning she is a person of national. Importance) and at this moment he suspexts that whatever ahe is doing has to do woth the second prince.

To blow up her cover like that over some stupid jealousy would result in his entire family being sent to the chopping block. A fate that those idiot onna's who almost poisoned her nearly missed.
