I actually personally know four different dudes who had their own exclusive harem. Two of them ended up with the girls fucking each other too, the other two with one of the girls slowly displacing the other ones. Fun fact, in both cases, the “last remaining” girl was the last one to arrive, so they had to consciously decide to become part of the harem in order to chase the other ones.

And they don't seem to have the "romantical closeness mandatory for physical closeness" going for them, they treat sex casually and established their "rules" from the get go, so I don't feel sad at all - this was whole series premise to begin with.
