Interesting arc. Hard to believe it's been 134 chapters of this manga without the setup getting old. The plot threads that occasionally get tugged on are good too.
I can't fault either of the major players here. Oribe for his peace-scheming and Ieyasu for taking grave insult. Not to say either are correct, but it's easy enough to understand why they're doing what they're doing.
Every time the judo stuff shows up it reminds me of being a child in all the worst ways. It's a testament to the skill of the author that they can depict the struggles of being a kid so well.
It's not uncommon for mangaka to have weird takes (they're primarily characterized by their ability to be shut-ins who do nothing but draw) but I don't see it here. If anything it's a reflection of Japan's mildly weird vending machine culture.
