Anybody else hate oneshots and short series? It always feels like the pacing is too fast because the story doesn't have time to breathe and let you really get to know the characters.
I think it's a case of the original Japanese using a lot of slang and the translator is trying to keep the spirit by using (mostly american) english slang, though, that's always done at the risk of over localizing the dialogue.
I don't mind the British English that is clearly the translator's native dialect peeking through a little, but that last panel on the first page was a bit much.

No, if it dropped off, I'd drop it. 99% of the time its good all the way through. Even then the only things I've dropped have been fantasy novels that got too emotionally messy with their romance subplot via the "I thought you were dead" trope.
