I think the story is saying that although we may remember things differently of those who passed, they remain the same in the afterlife as they were alive.

The father in the story was an absolute menace when drunk, scaring the mother and making the younger son blame the resulting mess of a family life on the older brother.

Yuuma‘s mother cares for him now in this form, as she probably did when she was alive, prompting Yuuma to beg her to stay.

lmao I just imagined the ghost of his father coming back absolutely sloshed. Probably saying things like "hic I'm back everybody! It's hic everything is all good now." While he's constantly tripping and falling into/knocking shit over. Made the story very comical for me 😂

But damn, was this Yuma's plan? To bring back his dead mother? Didn't see that coming. I wonder how the rest will play out going down the stretch. I'm sure it won't end well.
