Welp both inside and outside the story, this was the most ominous chapter in awhile. The new cover is not helping either...

As others have stated, the mirror hint may be the MC/Yuuma having caught the interest of a supernatural entity that will not let him go from the repetition of certain actions causing a Bad End. One curious thing is that the being possessing Hina only happened when she burned it's vessel/effigy(?) back in Ch. 80 without Yuuma's knowledge or presumed consent. We can see how he never intended for her to be mixed-in to all of this and pleaded for it to take Yuuma's place instead. Perhaps that was his original plan to have both of them exist in one body together?

These Round-of-100-Ghost-Stories classically stop at Ch.99 to prevent inviting a real one into the reader's life as a precautionary measure so there may only be six chapters remaining. Then again it might go to the full 100 or more. Thanks again for the TL.

100% that thing is not his mother.

Wait, come to think of it, it was Hina herself the one that told him about the ritual, wasn't she ? Now I am wondering how the hell did she gain that knowledge and whether she knew that the information about it was faulty

Pretty sure she knew it as just a classic urban legend, just like how we've heard lots about Ouija from many casual sources

Is the ghost his birth mom or something?
Well he did call her 'mom' but was it ever established that the original 'mom' we saw that hated /abused him was a step mom rather than a bio one? (not that biological ones can't also be terrible unless he assumed a ghost changed her to begin with or so)

I've been curious for awhile if Yuma's father and stepmother ever truly abused him, and it's a red herring. Maybe our boy is in 'Chi no Wadachi' situation.

I've been thinking it's going to be like this ever since the first cop died. It is possible Yuuma is just being manipulated by the entity, or if it actually is mom, then she's become warped by her time in limbo; or perhaps she was always evil/insane even while alive like Seiko from Chi no Wadachi and and we've been misled by the author since the beginning.

In a previous chapter after the mom get her neck brace and the police get involved she mentioned that she alway knew there something wrong with Yuma from the day she first meet him. The wording here (“first meet” instead of “when he was born”) I think it a clear indication that the abusive mom it the step mom.

This story was so modern and paced so quickly, it didn’t have much fear/tension for me. There’s more tension in the opening panels for me. Yuuma’s room is completely fixed, poster and all, not-Hina is humming and tidying away, while Yuuma sweats bullets trying to think of what to do. Just like the story, Yuuma can feel not-Hina closing in and he’s unable to look away. Will a small mistake be his final undoing?
