@Jet There's still hope for the future. But I feel like Matsuri would need to change, maybe become more warm-hearted and less constantly tense, to make the pure and shy Souga fall for him. There are plenty of guys for whom current-Matsuri is their type, but Suzu makes more sense for Souga.

As it stands, I like the slow-building character dynamic of this manga, but it doesn't feel like the characters have any impetuses to change or mature, and the plot is grasping at straws at bit with Suzu's alternate persona and now retroactively making Shirogane even more important.

The author surely took his time building the characters and the plot. Also, I don't mind the tentacle but this still mild in terms of ecchi level compared to his other works.

@NinjaGoemon Huh, that never occurred to me before but I think you're right. I guess it's part of the "shame and humiliation" genderswap indignity train. Though that such an assault is considered to be "part" of the feminine experience is inherently an issue too...

I think it has place in contrapasso "ironic justice" type stories where the genderswapped individual was a serial harasser themselves but that's about the only capacity I can barely tolerate it. I personally don't enjoy seeing characters get sexually violated, no matter their internal or external parts. This goes double if it's a character I really like such as Matsuri.

@NinjaGoemon and @MidnighTea: The manga generally sexualizes (female) Matsuri more than the regular girls. We've seen him undressed the most by far, and he's the only one with visible nipples (just look at chapter 11), even if they're airbrushed outside the volumes. In the chapter after this, the octopus grabs Suzu by the waist and wraps around her leg, but it doesn't strip her, grab her breast, or spread her legs apart like it did to Matsuri.

Most of it I'm fine with, and the nipples thing is kind of funny. Matsuri getting groped more because he identifies as male is pretty messed up, especially when he explicitly doesn't think being a guy means he should tolerate being sexual harassed. (I likewise am particularly fond of Matsuri as a character, which makes it more painful.)

That said, "Matsuri is sometimes sexually humiliated, even though other girls aren't" is definitely the lesser of two evils if the other option is this stuff happening regularly to all of them. People defending (or even condemning) ecchi often miss the difference between complaining about any kind of sexuality versus fetishized sexual humiliation and such.
