I don't know about teenagers in general, but adults would more likely have their own reservations about relationships and sex and may spew out "3D PIG DISGUSTING" jokingly. It's not a matter of maturity, but it's just having some bad experiences that led them to becoming practically asexual.

In the first chapter, it was narrated that the MC had a mother who disappeared, confessed to a girl but got bullied, has a sister who isn't too kind, and he's being ostracized by the girls in class.

It weren't just his books, it was a collection that was made by his senpai and the whole thing started with them not wanting to loose the room and the place to store the books. If they lost the books anyway, it partly invalidates the stakes for this arc. I shouldn't be surprised since the arc had little to nothing to do with it and was about the new girl.
The MMC kind of took the back seat during that arc and with the new setup it probably won't change and since I doubt he will be cosplaying I wonder what will be his role from now on, other than being one of the cameramen.
