Kaede may have some self-esteem issues, but she really dropped the ball on that confession. I agree that she needs to love herself more to better accept the love of others. But you don't need to be the picture of confidence in order to respectfully reject someone who was brave enough to confess.

She sort of presents an illusion of openness by being enthusiastic about her passions and by being very informal in the way she speaks to others. But there is a line she has that she simply won't let others cross. I think she's trying to keep people she really cares about at a distance in order to not get hurt. She sabotages the relationship and then acts like it doesn't hurt when they leave. even tho it clearly does hurt her. I think we're going to see soon just how much pain is hidden under her carefree attitude. She's gonna have to let it out if she doesn't want Kazuki to leave too.

Aoi is kind of similar in that she doesn't let people get to close in favor of shallow relationships. I think Kaede might be the only person she's ever actually fallen for which is why I think ultimately she leaves the apartment because she knows that she'll just be bashing her head against the wall kaede has put up. Which is a very painful way to live. It's probably also why she rushed to get married. I think the heartbreak just made her give up on everything so she decided to hide. Which is just a different kind of painful life
