Okay wait so for everyone who's confused, she almost called Komi-san 'sister' and realized she was becoming attached to her. Since she had to say goodbye so much in the past, she doesn't want to get hurt, that's what the beginning of the chapter was about. This really continues the theme of communication in this manga nicely... moving on from just a basic fear of speaking and conversing to an internal fear of being vulnerable and becoming attached.

my eyes are sweating, send help

We need to add Tragedy tag after what happened to Sokechuu.
And a Feels tag after reading this chapter.

@Serenata Well, aren't you so superior. Sometimes people just don't make a certain connection, you don't need to act all cool and mighty about it. One can explain it without trying to put other people down.

Either way, emotional chapter as always, bad for my heart.

I kinda hope Komi will be able to solve or somewhat lessen the issue of Rei (which is not small for a child) by herself or with only a little nudge or advice from Tadano or Najimi.
It will be a good way to shows her character's growth and show she can pays the favor she recieved from her friends forward.

People who get confused probably are just like me, catch that Rei don't want to get any more attached to Komi BUT at the same time not really sure whether that's what happened.
I mean, after all those happy moments they had together, she suddenly turn 180° and use vital throw on sokechuu just because calling Komi by name??

At first I was thinking cool they're gonna do stuff and then they go shopping and at first I was like NO DON'T DO THIS TO ME. But then I did some thinking.

In all seriousness, I think the stuff about the overarching theme of communication disorders played a good part with what happened in this chapter.

After moving who knows how many times, having to say goodbye to so many friends, it's only natural for a kid to not want to form any attachments or bonds with someone.

It took me a second to realize why she stopped herself when she started to call Komi sister but I honestly feel like this was a nice change of pace.
