@IsaacJan Forced would give the implication that there wasn't any form of buildup to it, or hints at something more, which there were plenty of. From the start, her "mature" attitude was nothing more than a mask she's pulling in order to appear satisfied, and make them think she may not be interested in playing, so others don't bother getting close to her, then you see her crying for her mother, because she's now alone, in a place with new people she doesn't want to get infatuated with. And then this chapter further explained it, and made it very clear, she fears loss, to the point it's a disorder for her and she dislikes communication and interaction.
Lots of people did miss out on the context, you can see plenty asking about it. Plus, I wouldn't fear for loss of cute, and humor, we even got plenty this chapter, next one will most likely be some healing, and helping her get over her issue.
