Well life is what it is. The father-in-law understood that, he can't reasonably expect the guy to remain forever a widow. His wish for them to remain family is reasonable.
He knows his son-in-law still loves his daughter and will keep her memory in his heart and in respect.

I'm always surprised by how nicely this manga treat some subject who would have go all drama and shit in other manga.

And it felt good to see the grandfather being able to stop with his childish attitude.

@KafukaPalazzo That's one of the best part about a lot of the 4koma style series. Even a fairly dramatic subject is often handled more like this. I don't hate the series that make things like this more of a huge deal or anything, but it's nice to get away from that and relax sometimes.
