I wonder if Mute is the "Master" seems like he was dying and knew he would not live to see her wake up. So perhaps he made Mute in order to live on.

Jeez, in all those years that guy never once tried to cook and slowly but surely learn or hunt or forage and what-not? I know he's got post-apocalypse boredom and depression but still... You'd think at some point the boredom and monotony of it all would get him to do something.

I'm getting the feeling that "Master" is very much dead and Mute was Master's final creation for the sake of protecting her and because of that Mute knows Master is dead and gone so he just goes around with her and does his best to keep her happy...of course, considering it's a future world with high-tech to make humanoid robots that internally convert food into enough power to run on, it's possible he even uploaded a copy of his own mind into Mute at the end

I get the feeling she isn't actually a robot. A cyborg maybe, but more human than she thinks.

And they didn't ask why that dude was the last dude left in the village!

Japanese doesn't gender in the same way as does English, and a translator could mistakenly assume that a mistress were a master. Take a good look at what is shown of the professor, and stop using masculine terms!

@Oeconomist yes, that is likely correct. There was very little context for their gender until now (and even now there is not much), so I just ended up choosing the one I thought was most likely. Given what I’ve read though, it appears that I was wrong. I will update the pronouns for them when I have time (and hopefully I’ll be right this time then). I am sorry that I made a translation error, and will try my best to avoid it in the future.

@Nyarumi

Your initial assumption was indeed quite reasonable.

My comment was intended to be directed at the folk commenting here within the context that was established after you began.

At first this chapter bad. Glasses guy gave the vibes of the Professor would be.

I thought Mute was the possessive type at first but now it makes sense if Mute is the Master..

Looking back, a lot of Manga has done this. Where they put their brains into robots/animals to keep on living
