@boag Well I can't argue with what you said, seeing that I'm not a father.

@Nep Well if you live in a fairly safe place (modern era) then yeah I would agree with number 1, but seeing that this manga didn't set in such a place (closer to medieval era I guess) I'd rather pick number 3, I guess we can say that you're an idealist and I'm a realist. I didn't say he should do things strictly in either black or white only (your number 1 and 2), I said that not only he should teach her to be kind he should also teach her to be apathetic, kind to the ones that are kind and apathetic to the ones that are troublesome, and the swindler girl here is clearly a troublesome person which can serve him as example for his daughter to be apathetic. This is where we disagree, you said that "to be kind to everybody as much as possible", but I said that "you should be kind, but ignore the troublesome ones". And what's wrong with taking the money in this case? Seeing that he didn't plan to blab anyway, taking the money just gonna make the swindler girl to go away quickly, of course it's wrong if he planned to blab but then decided to shut up after taking the money though, the key is that his original intention aligned with the purpose of the money, and he should explain it later to the daughter as the lesson of "stay away from trouble, if you've unintentionally involved then quickly get away".

I guess the difference in our opinion is who we consider troublesome. Personally don't find the girl that troublesome yet. (Enough to warrant avoiding her I mean.)
On a side note, if I find someone troublesome, I would just run away at full speed.

As for whether taking the money in this case is right or wrong. This is actually a special case that depends on the culture. Not sure about Japan but i am pretty sure some Chinese would consider this 'shameless' 'not virtuous' yada yada ... whatever shameless means to them. Honestly their entire cultural belief thing confuses me to no end so its not really a point.

I should really stop defending characters on a cultural/character point of view since modern common sense clearly don't apply half the time.

@Nep Fair enough, I guess he might not see her as troublesome, but her existence definitely screaming trouble from our perspective as reader. Is this another way to show a MC that's not sharp and got tangled with trouble here and there? Might be, seeing that this is a shounen manga, I shouldn't have expected a mature MC here. As for the money, I was arguing from the practical stand point, it might not look pretty, rather it look rather bad seeing it from outside, but it's definitely understandable if explained. I agree that modern people would prefer to do things that are more realistic rather than following idealistic culture, and you can see this in modern chinese society (mostly that's living in city), how apathetic they are, even when there's someone distressed they mostly prefer to be apathetic and stay out of it as to avoid trouble (you can google a case where a chinese woman got stabbed and people just walked normally as if nothing happened eventhough the husband screaming for help).
