I think she's just testing Alec, and I think he's passing with flying colors. He won't needlessly sacrifice himself because it won't solve the larger issue, she's trolling him to see how he'll assure his honor.
She hasn't said she will kill him, or that she'll expect him to come back later and die. Just seeing how he responds to the questions.
