I'm gonna agree with the bandwagon. I prefer the original. Sweet Mask's unrepentant murdering stuck out in a good way, but I guess we just HAD to get it changed...

I understand why Murata has redrawn this, considering what has happened in the webcomic, but i gotta say i preferred the old version, just because of Sweet Masl's ruthlessness.

Oh god since those hostages are still alive and the apprentice squad now has to escort them to the surface, there’re going to be massive changes to the future story and newly released chapters, especially with the fight with ENW. ONE just loves adding dead weight to the plot doesn’t he.

Eh, I think this is better. After all, it's not that Mask is a ruthless asshole, it's just that he literally can't tell right from wrong on a psychological level due to a banal lack of humanity. He has to remember what is right and wrong with his mind and act accordingly. The original was both better and worse character exploration, because it showcased his rigid morality, but painted him as too much of a bad guy, considering that he's probably the single person in the whole manga who has to try the hardest to be a good guy while going against his nature.

Both are cannon
The one punch man webcomic is like a draft of where the story goes and this version is a more polished version of that draft.
There is some serious mental gymnastics involved when the self-consistent original work is considered a draft but the version that constantly receives retcons, revisions, and completely redundant scenes is the "polished" one. Like when we had to watch somebody explain what monster cells are in three separate scenes when only one of them would be enough. Or when they had to introduce a new kid hostage just to explain why the MA HQ was infiltrated and not outright nuked, but couldn't throw the other kid out of the story, so they had both. Or when a largely inconsequential (and not really funny or interesting) tournament arc was made just to explain where Saitama spent several hours during the MA attack on the city.

It's almost like every plot hole of the otherwise incredibly well-written webcomic is being filled with the laziest, most mediocre writing imaginable, and diluted to the brim with prolonged, inconsequential extra fights to appease the action sakuga fanboys. It has the right to be, but calling this "polish" is disingenuous. It's plain and simple rewriting, and it's done for a different audience.

Maybe it's time to accept that the webcomic is not a draft and that they don't have the same canon. Especially when the canon of one contradicts the canon of the other.

@moozooh

This comic (separate to the webcomic) existed long before the "sakuga fanboys" flooded to it. Respect Murata's work, even if you don't like it.

Sweet Mask is really a monster, it is revealed in the webcomic, so this chapter was reworked to foreshadow that
major spoilers but here is your answer
