Is he a werewolf, affected by the moon to the point where he can't appear in public for several days when it becomes full ? I mean, Roselia would know about it if that was the case, since Ain would probably be the same in the book she read, so it's probably not that, but still.

Drugs from the king right? To make sure he is kept obedient....His family was a creature to deal with the dirty work and since a creature needs a collar to their leash I suppose

@Mojo this is wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithridatism
Vaccines are derived from the same principle; your anti-tetanus shot won't shorten your life...
Mistakes are easily made, sure, but we're talking about a family practising Mithridatism for generations here.

I also suspect the situation has to do with the King and their 'bond'.

@abear Um did you read the Wikipedia you linked to?
"It is important to note that mithridatism is not effective against all types of poison (immunity generally is only possible with biologically complex types which the immune system can respond to) and, depending on the toxin, the practice can lead to the lethal accumulation of a poison in the body. "
That was in the first sentence of the first paragraph of the wiki part labeled "In practice" So how was I wrong? 。(*^▽^*)ゞ

I'd say you were right too, depending on how which poisons they used, except earlier chapters showed they were using a great variety of different poisons.. and if you keep reading (the wiki) it says it slowly damages your liver causing liver disease, is useless against heavy metals, cyanide, etc .etc. because immune responses don't work on non-biological poisons.

@Mojo I do not only read wikipaedia. If I did most of what I'd know would be obviousnesses and common sense. Good starting point, but little more.
Let's leave aside the out-of-context quotes, and the rules that might not apply to a fantasy world...

That would be very strange for Mr Perfect Duke to make that sort of mistake. That talk about poisons and toxins is only here to make Ain look pitiful in the eyes of the innocent MC anyway.

@abear Ya'll the one that put that link up for me to read. Dude gives me a homework reading assignment then says it's not relevant cause it might not apply to a fantasy world when I actually read your link. Dude. Not cool man.
Also.
That. was. not. out. of. context.

I mean, I realize my little pet hypothesis about him being dizzy from long term poison consumption is probably not right. I'm also not trying to deny your thoughts on what you think is happening in the story. But that's not the point man. I'm just wanted to defend myself, that I'm not just pulling my scenario out of my ass, that it's a legit possibility backed up by a real thing that happens. That's all.
