She's not pulling any punches... But it's probably true that he's only being so kind to her because they have need of her powers.

I think the knight is just on the fence at this point. He's not bad, but definitely not someone kind-hearted at nature.

However, I do kind of think he's superficial, like he's kind because he needs to or because it's his role as someone in the higher position.

So, that's why Renee told that to him. It's a little suspicious as to why the knight is giving her more attention than the others, considering that he's equally kind to everyone.

Renee is smart in my opinion because despite being infatuated with his looks, she certainly knows that the knight is treating her well not for romantic purposes, but for something else.

Their situation with the war going on is too unrealistic to say that our blonde knight is falling in love with her. So, I can understand where she comes from.
