The maid was able to make a different choice and has been putting that incident behind her, while the noblewoman was put in a tragic situation and despite knowing that repeating in under different circumstances is wrong has still continued to do it for several years and has come up with an excuse to try to justify her repeat "bad behavior". I like their dynamic and the contrast between them it will be interesting seeing how their situation and connection develops.
