The mother is actually competent? I'll be honest the girls become such a mess around Sou it's weird seeing them being so respectable
Lol, this thirsty bitch is a successful career woman?!
It would indeed go to show that when
not around/drunk on/thinking about boys, the vast majority of this universe's women indeed form some sort of functioning society. It's just the insanely-strong evolutionary pressure hijacks normal thought when around Sou; while societally shameful, Akane's thirst is
probably average.
Other moms may not just experience thirst toward their sons because of how emotionally stunted and withdrawn they are. Any boy past puberty that reciprocates affection towards their mother probably triggers severe lust in the mom regardless of the mom's conscious wishes (As Akane has lamented in past chapters). Because in the grand evolutionary scheme of things, the side-effects of one instance of incest exty-thousand years ago in caveman times was a better alternative than having no men available and a population dying out because of it. It's just that that the same evolutionary programming is still hard-wired in and active in present day.
And this chapter feels like a good reflection of the series' dichotomy in just a few pages: Akane's text message is the
tatemae/public persona that ladies struggle for and that Sou sees. Her outburst at work is the
honne/true self of the primal urges that Sou is oblivious to.
