The one thing that I think the anime does better than the manga is to show how good of a teacher Yoke was to these young women and how good students they were. In the anime, Marina takes point with a steel rod, probing for traps. When Yoke asks to take the lead, she repeats back to him the lesson he taught her years ago and he has to explain why this will be an exception. Then at the stairs, it's each young woman that looks over her weapon, armor, and equipment and gives a brief report (Silk even mentions retrieving arrows she fired off). These women are competent; they just need more experience.
