The one thing that I think the anime does better than the manga is to show how good of a teacher Yoke was to these young women and how good students they were. In the anime, Marina takes point with a steel rod, probing for traps. When Yoke asks to take the lead, she repeats back to him the lesson he taught her years ago and he has to explain why this will be an exception. Then at the stairs, it's each young woman that looks over her weapon, armor, and equipment and gives a brief report (Silk even mentions retrieving arrows she fired off). These women are competent; they just need more experience.

@Dicrel Maybe whomever wrote the anime adaptation was thinking the same thing that I was reading these first few chapters: Maybe Yoke wasn't a very good teacher. That's why he was in an adventuring party instead of a much safer profession like staying a teacher, and explains the general incompetence that the girls have to show in order to big up the MC. However, since that also goes against the very premise of this story, the anime decided to fix the problem by actually showing him as a competent teacher, instead of just kind of telling us in passing in the first chapter.
