she didn't want to attract Ren, cuz Ren liked straight hair (and maybe the blue girl Rei didn't like it personally, just did it for Ren)
or she imitated hairstyle of the blue girl (rei) to preserve her style, in the name of love?

The translation seems to be different now, dunno if they edited it. Now the dialogue is:
"Ren said she liked straight her, so I even straightend my out".
"I liked your curly hair though."
"I was jealous of your silky [which implies /straight] hair"
"Wait I dont remember why you got it permed"
"I just said it."

long hair girl was jealous of tomboy girl. tomboy girl likes long hair girl, so to not make long hair girl hate her, she changed her straight hair to a perm.
