She was way too self-absorbed that she couldn't realize how horrible she was to him, even after he broke up with her she still couldn't get that she was FAR in the wrong. It took her thinking he's dead before it finally clicked, so no she's still a damn "bimbo brain" but she's showing that she can at least grow. Now she just need to get that yandere thinking out of her system and I wouldn't complain if she meet him again but I don't think I'll like her getting back with him. Until then, I'm hoping his relationship with Noelia improves.
can't wait for more character development.

I have a few thoughts on this chapter.

1. Honestly I don't think she can ever truly redeem herself for how she treated the MC, like has been said she specifically only realised that she was wrong post his supposed death.

2. She had a sword against the Son's neck to the point of drawing blood, the assassin move was incredibly stupid cause she should (not could) have killed him the second the glass broke. Especially when you consider the dodge action she took, for that matter it's amazing the assassins didn't kill the hostage either.

3. I don't understand how the PM's son thinks its any different to force a woman with the rapey time and imprisoning her and forcing her over time (Probably with some kind of brainwashing) to rape her?!?

4. The WN has the polygamy, harem tags so careful on that going forward. I've had a a bad feeling they'll reunited the toxic ex as a harem member :(.

5. No guards (or a maid) watching over the hostages room and is unlocked? For pretty competent schemers they really screwed the pooch on that and I find that very hard to believe.

6. They are really trying their best to show the childhood friend is repenting but what she did would permenently scar a persons mental health, which is another point of annoyance for this series cause the MC seems pretty fine after he leaves.
Well. Japan's stories always revolve around loser guys or super op guys getting girls left and right and center. Then make it a harem.

PM's son was ultimately hoping for the brainwashing to kick in by gaslighting her. To do that, he had to make it appear he meant her no actual harm, even if he wasn't going to let her go. He probably thought by providing a comfortable environment where she was reasonably free to wander, albeit supervised, and well cared for, she'd react like how he believed any simple woman of a feudal kingdom would act, and eventually give in to a situation which wasn't bad for her; wife of a PM's son, rich, passport into high society, title...everything these spoiled rich nobles care about. Add on top of it that she was born a commoner, he probably thought she'd bite more easily and it was just a matter of time.

That was likely his train of thought. A lot of these spoiled noble kids are incredibly full of themselves, easily impressed by their own brilliance, and think everything will go their way just because they say so.

For Alfine, cutoff looks like a preamble to a long road for her redemption. We'll see how the author plays that out, I guess. Hopefully without too severe a timeskip.

Stories like this have a tendency to go above or below what would "realistically" happen to a person, especially with mental issues. Sometimes the treatment that caused it is exaggerated for effect, and sometimes the outcome is exaggerated for effect, or either or both are downplayed to reduce unwanted drama or lasting consequences. And I don't think you can separate the morality (and thus the redemption) of the act from the shown consequences. In this case it's still hard to judge since we don't have any outside perspective on it so we can more clearly see how the story is treating it.

But if I were to judge it as-is, I'd say that since she doesn't have an adult and mature mind guiding her, she deserves a chance to redeem herself. What I expect from the series is the point I didn't quote.

There are quite a few signs of either incompetence and/or substandard, one-dimensional villain writing, so I wouldn't analyse it too closely. They seem to be as competent as the plot demands, which means they have their complex plans that will have convenient holes in them for the good and questionable characters to exploit.

Like....wow, that's a perfect summary of this dude. claps
I could not have put in any better words.

You'll be surprised how much thought goes into stories and/or characters. You can easily use them for psychological and social studies even in the most basic looking manga. It's (sometimes) much deeper than you think....if you are thinking that is.

1. I think she should apologize for what she did and atone, but yeah the damage is done. While he is pretty much healing from the abuse, because she wasn't a part of that you can say she did lose that chance at redemption. Atonement is always open though.

2. The Butler was at fault for that, had she whipped around his neck would have been severed. He put his master into danger trying to get the upper hand. He should have waited until he was either free or the assassins could better sneak up on her.

3. Forced consent. Sadly, some places don't consider that a crime or wrong doing. A medieval-like period like this definitely wouldn't have.

4. Highly possible, he sometimes get lost in thought thinking about her. But there's also the chance of new girls as he travels.

5. Why would you have a (as far as we know) untrained in combat maid tending to a hostage? Their job wasn't even to make sure she didn't escape, it was to make sure she didn't commit suicide. She's a damn powerful fighter, how would those maids stop her?

6. I'm not annoyed as this wasn't a spur of the moment thing, he was festering on this for some time before finally saying enough is enough. Being liberated from a harmful relationship can give a feeling of ease and comfort just as much as the trauma from the abuse. He seems to have been a mentally strong person from the get go, otherwise he may have never got the courage to end it with her in the way that he did.

Probably used to western productions. They seldom put as much thought into something drawn or animated. Sure there are some, but the prevailing mentality is that stuff like this targets a younger audience who don't even think of it.

Probably because I have read too many Japanese cartoons and novels that have this kind of premise and they are almost the exact copy of each other, so I kind of zoned out of all of 'em.

I don't really consume western media for the exact reason why I read these kind of mangas. They all feel and look the same. Western medias are just a shitter.

There are, of course, gems in the sea of rubbish, and they are either the father of its genre or the one that deviates from the genre. Lovecraftian Horrors are horrors but different and I love 'em. Mushoku Tensei is the father of isekai and it's a masterpiece. KonoSuba that seems like a trashy isekai but actually good because it doesn't take itself seriously. One Piece.
It's kind of hard to explain but it's much more interesting to analyse good medias like those I mentioned rather than, you know, this, the kind that I can turn my brain off and just read through it.

Also, brainrot on my part, that's for sure amirite fellas.

Thank you for picking this up, also noting the lack of a harem tag, so theres hope. (For the other girl)

For 5 what I meant as in observational, cause they weren't even doing that. She just waltzed out.

For 6 while people can feel liberated it also usually causes lifelong trust issues and certain mental tics like cowing when someone goes for a punch for example.

Studying manga for psychology is like studying historical fiction for history. Sure, you can study it and train your analysing skills, but everything is made up and dramatised, so there's no guarantee it's accurate to real life.

Mushoku Tensei is the father of isekai
If that's the father then there are many grandfathers, great grandfathers, and many, many more generations back. The anime of Sword Arts Online is about as old, and I think what brought the term "isekai", but the genre itself was old even back then, and in my opinion dates back to prehistory. It's been an evolving genre, but that's also true for many other manga genres, like harem, shonen action, etc.

It's one of the most popular in the subgenre of reincarnation isekai, though, so it's a largely responsible for popularising that particular brand of today's isekai stories.

It's weird how the side story of the character we all hated is now much more interesting than the main character... Hopefully it picks up a lot on his side.

Also if I were to guess, I'd say those knights might be whatever those demonic beasts were that fought against the humans during that Great Battle thing. The way that the butler talked about a "grand plan" leads me to think so

Mushoku Tensei is the father of isekai and it's a masterpiece.

That’s adorable that you think it’s the father of isekai or that it’s a masterpiece. It’s a fine series but it has a lot of forced stuff (like the capital being nuked which had zero lead up to and just happens out of nowhere) cause the author didn’t know how to actually advance the story. Not to mention that Shield Hero, Overlord and Problem Children Seem to be Coming from Another World? came out before it and isekai has been a thing for decades. For instance The Familiar of Zero definitely predates Mushoku Tensei.

I’ve easily read over 700 WNs (most are isekai series) and Mushoku doesn’t even hit the top 25 for best isekai series. Stuff like death March, Kumo desu, Tensei Slime, Shield Hero, Golden Wordmaster, Kuma Bear, Sword bro, Overlord and skeleton knight are all far better series to read that Mushoku Tensei is.

I mean I doubt that very much. For that type of isekai stuff like Slime, spider and Overlord are far more popular and have better name recognition.

Also SAO isn’t an isekai. If we’re going to classify VR games as isekai then that’s mean that .hack is an isekai and I don’t think we should go that route

I'm not sure I'd say "much more interesting" as far as "currently more in focus".

Of those, I think only Overlord is older, but they're all more on the monster side of reincarnation, so they're not what I'd say is the same brand of isekai.

SAO is an isekai in my mind, because they're stuck in there (original arc, at least). It also spawned a ton of isekai followers. The VR subgenre shares a lot of traits with actual otherworldly isekai, which is why I'd classify it as the same overall genre. It all depends on how widely or narrowly you define it. I don't think genres are about specific things existing or not, but rather about general ideas and themes, and much more about the overall feel of the works.
