Oh the ortolan, that's a real story. They used to eat these birds that were fattened up and then drowned in brandy. They would then eat them whole. Which is partially why the napkin was put on the head they think, cuz it is really gross to watch someone eat a bird whole and it was less messy that way. But hiding your sin from God is far more poetic than not wanting to see someone chug a bird
