I was wondering what the king would be like after seeing how his son turned out and also learning about what happened to the knight girl. But now I see the exact reason for those, while the king seems to be a “kind” person with good intentions on stuff, he’s absolutely horrendous on the follow up on the choices he made.

His follow up is poor but, at the same time an "Alive but outlaw" Knight girl is much better than a "Dead but died a hero" knight girl.. hell she probably wouldn't have even died a hero they would have thrown so much mud on her name that she'd still be a villain it's just she would no longer be able to make a comeback. The king has clearly proven that the nobles have gotten far too much power and now they are basically keeping him in check. He has very few moves left and doesn't even know one of the people he is trusting is actually a traitor. I don't necessarily think of him as a "bad" king but, a king that no longer has much control.

Really liked that the king brought up Chris. Her being still relevant in the story is a nice touch.
