“Subjects of my kingdom, my third son's poor reputation is an artefact of my mishandling the situation. Let me tell you what he's actually done and why.” EoS
I'm iffy on this because sure, this could work, but it'd really not be as effective as them seeing him do something good for once. It's very much a great idea, but I'd have to assume that wouldn't work here because then why haven't they tried that already. I'm aware I'm trying to go to bat for a manga that has a buncha holes in its premise if you pay more attention than the author expected you to, but I do think that this is somewhat decently thought out.
If the third prince's reputation is so easily ruined and spoiled, I have my doubts that the king doing a friday night 9pm discord announcement saying "My son is great, actually" will do much. Maybe some people will change their opinion, but you can see how much he's hated. It won't change that easily unless they actually see shit happening, and even then it might be a pretty long process to remaking his reputation.
You can even just look at real life: take any inflammatory internet personality and find a moment where they were falsely accused, and the truth came to light. You can still see people who refuse to believe their innocence years later. People don't listen if they don't want to believe sometimes.

Weak, contrived storyteling.

Yup.

I'm quite sure that you're wrong, because I'm sure that it doesn't have to have been thought-out for commercial viability. And this manga has been very formulaic, as if the sole concern of the author is to get paid.

Nor do they believe any other information. A great many people commit to a position, and then stick with it, regardless of almost anything that might be said or done. Evidence can be made available that each distinctive piece of a narrative is a lie, but people will just turn away from that evidence, or wilfully lose sight of each piece as the next piece is presented, so that they don't have to accept the synthesis of a counter-argument. The marginal cost of converting people rises steeply, and quickly exceeds practicality.

Nothing that the third prince could do will completely win-over most of the people who have embraced the idea that he is a villain. So the king should just come clean, have his teeth publicly knocked-out by the royal executioner, abdicate, and retire in shame.

I come to manga with the hopes that if I give it a chance it will explain itself to me. I don't like jumping to conclusions about the state of the writing so quickly, especially only 6 chapter in. For now, I'll agree here, but I'll simply continue to hope this manga justifies itself in the future. Of course regardless of whether it does I'll still read, because frankly I've seen much stupider plots and I actually like the MC here, as compared to most MCs of his archetype he's actually being made to do something about shit like this instead of just letting it go. Reluctantly, of course, but a welcome difference nonetheless.

You're right that commercial viability has less and less to do with thought nowadays but I really wouldn't want to jump to conclusions about the author's reason to making this manga. Especially one that assumes bad faith and lack of artistic motivation on the mangaka's side. And formulaic doesn't mean bad or uninteresting (which is why some of us are still here).
Tropes are tropes for a reason, and so are formulas. I'd give this manga a little longer to differentiate itself (though honestly I doubt it'll do much of that in any way other than the maid and MC, so eh), because I tend to come to these manga willing to give them a chance. If I picked it up in the first place anyway. It has potential, and that's enough for me to keep paying attention for a bit longer.

(Sheesh that's a little harsh when the king's fault is more inaction than action)
Again you're partially right. I don't believe everyone to be incapable of changing their minds. I just think direct action from the prince is more likely to win over more minds than an explanation from the King. Honestly, now that I think about it, not doing both (as in, having the third prince solve this shit and then using the King's authority to corroborate his claims) would honestly be much dumber than just one. But again, I don't think the King's plan here is dumber than just making an announcement, and I can in part tolerate it because I like seeing the MC's personality (you know, the narrative purpose behind that decision).

Really a lot of my opinions on this can be boiled down to me giving the manga a chance to prove itself to me. I'm just more willing to give it the benefit of the doubt than you are, and that's fine. If you choose to drop it here and find something much better and more skilled at justifying its events and premise, that's great. Nothing wrong with being less tolerant of bullshit or sloppy writing, that just means we have different tastes.

This manga has already had ample opportunity.

Some other fellow might say exactly the same thing, except in reference to sixty chapters. After six chapters, the manga should exhibit more intelligence than this story has.

No one is jumping t conclusions.
formulaic doesn't mean bad or uninteresting
But it utterly subverts the argument that the author is likely to offer a story vindicating the behavior of the king.

Stop pulling that shit. Virtually everyone comes to these manga willing to give them a chance. You are different from those complaining in that you insist that we should still be giving the manga a chance beyond about a hundred pages.

Okay, I wouldn't say that after sixty chapters. That's absurd. I mean, by then I'd probably have dropped the manga and forgotten about it if it didn't get better in that time, but even if I didn't I still wouldn't say that.
But it utterly subverts the argument that the author is likely to offer a story vindicating the behavior of the king.
I don't see how that does. The author doesn't have to stick to said formula to a t, and even if it's unlikely it doesn't mean it's impossible. Perhaps he wouldn't, in which case we're just left with a stupid king (which he already is for letting this situation get to this point), but I'm not the one writing this. I can only speculate, unless this is being adapted from something (idk I didn't bother to check).

I suppose I should be more specific then: I'm willing to give this manga more leeway than others. I'm not saying you didn't give the manga a chance, or others didn't, but that I'm just being more lenient on the manga for not establishing itself quickly and properly. You are right in that a good story should have justified its premise and plot and managed to hook you in six chapters in, but at the same time if I judged all the manga I read by that standard, I'd be perpetually starved, especially at the rate I burn through chapters.
I'll reiterate this again: I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying I simply have lower standards.

Because you have a sample-size of about a hundred pages, and zero evidence for the hypothesis. Let's recall my actual remark, with added emphasis:
But it utterly subverts the argument that the author is likely to offer a story vindicating the behavior of the king.
which remark was in response to your statement
formulaic doesn't mean bad or uninteresting
.
I'll reiterate this again: I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying I simply have lower standards.
That's not a reiteration. Do you think that anyone here would argue against that proposition?

You had, instead, been saying that you were willing to give this story and other stories a chance, as if the rest of us were not. I'm glad that you've abandoned such rhetoric.

Next time that you find yourself in such a context, if you have a felt need to comment, then instead of arguing, you can just say something along the lines of “I will hold onto the hope that this story will develop relatively well.”

Being honest with that Otome Game twisted behavior of gifting plot armor to idiot prince, is better read the comments and just ignore what they are saying in this manga chapter or every interaction from anyone that is not the king, the waifu, the maid or our MC dark prince
