Isekai backstories are good for making every man's that can know as little or as much as needed, and also ensuring they view the world through a lens that makes sense to the audience. In this case, being an isekai makes sense so that he could be a child genius, as well as someone who understand the Villainess, unlike others.

It probably could have gotten away with him just being a child genius, who was devoted to the villainess for other reasons (she saved his life maybe?) but that probably would have taken more time to explain than,"he isekai'd, he like the villainess' character".
