When you look at 'muscle men' competitions of yore, our ability to sculpt the male physique has come a LONG way, so it actually wouldn't surprise me if indeed there were no ripped & shredded men in history prior to modern times.

I really do mean it, just look at those old competitions, the men weren't weak, but their presence had no where near the 'oomph' that today's muscular gym goers have. I'm unsure if it's a difference in body-fat control, or muscle density, or both, but there's a clear difference.

Look up traditional circus strong men from the first half of the 20th century, they did have well defined arms but their torsos had much more natural shaping cause they didn’t try to burn off the excess balance unhealthily. So it’s a very different build from modern muscle shaping despite being just as strong and far healthier a build
