From the chapter, I think they may be going for that she was never a villainess, she was good, but was simply seen as such because her actions disrupted the status quo of the nobility. Basically, she had good intentions, but threw her power around too much to the point of pissing off the nobility. It's part of why they refuse to talk about or record her actions, because to simply paint her as a villain and not mention her actions is the most beneficial to them. Specifically saying that she was a villainess to "the king's court" gives me this impression.

Basically, She wasn't perfect and played the part. But that doesn't mean she was evil by any means, at the very least she's been groomed into the less than favorable acts, nurtured if you will.

Her childhood didn't help either but that compliments it.

The abuse of power is firmly in the Royal family (The King and the Prince) so far. We don't know about the Queen or if there's even a Princess or 2.

So much potential for political intrigue.

This chapter made me think what if Aurora knew that Karina was forced to take her place as the prince's betrothed so she "took" the prince back to try and free her sister.
If that’s the case, then her plan failed miserably, considering the sister got banned and then supposedly killed. I don’t think she’d marry the prince if she cared about her sister that much.

You assume she had any say in the matter. According to the mother maid the royal family had their eyes set on the crocus family specifically because they were a distant royal relative with no strong political ties (thus easy to control).

If the prince and king were really dissatisfied with karina as it suggests, its plausable that, had aurora not gone and 'stolen' the prince, karina would have been met with an 'accident', and aurora would still be pressured into being the crown princess.

We haven't seen much of aurora's perspective so i could be reading too much into this, but if the royal family was ruthless enough to engage karina/aurora to the prince as children, solely to act as a political shield against the nobles of the capital, then having a ruined reputation leading to annulment may have been the only way for karina to get out of this alive

It feels like she's not exactly planning to survive her revenge.
Honestly i could see how she wouldn't. She came out of a disastrous engagement with the crown prince only to have her reputation ruined and be nearly assassinated several times. Even though she was rescues by reshutoka she's still in the same situation, a one-sided engagement with someone who holds the power of life and death over her (if she says no to marriage what's she gonna do? Assuming reshutoka keeps the tribe from retaliating, karina is still stuck in the middle of the mountains with no survival skills). All of that would be enough to drive anyone to despair, so karina may well be thinking 'if i can't live the life i want i may as well get revenge on those who wronged me, no matter the cost'

Well, checking the website that publishes the manga, it seems to be doing fine? Hell, I would go as far as saying this series is one of that site's flagships.

The first volume is on preorder and drops on September 15th. My feelings on the story aside, I really hope it does well.
Your comment had me curious so I went and checked and it seems like it's the 3rd most popular work on there? Though I'm not sure how big their catalog is. It does give me some hope that it'll transition to sales.

Personally I already pre ordered the melonbook stand edition.

I'm really not sure how to feel about this series so far. As a rule, I don't like timeskips, and the manga basically saying "Karina and Reshu's relationship stayed exactly the same for 2 years between this and the last chapter" really destroys any romantic tension for me. At the same time though, I enjoy this new pov character a lot, and the thematic stuff that some of the other commenters have brought up really interests me.

This manga is giving big shakespearean drama vibes in a way that I was completely not ready for, but I'm really hoping that it does manage win me over.

Thank you for the TL!
