Its funny,, I dont know how to feel about this.
My favorite manga of all time has a similar thing occur where the ML has a crazy cousin who kidnaps the FL and attempts to molest her and it's super dark compared to the happy normal chapters. However I think it worked so much better there than here despite how similar the scenarios are. That's why I'm conflicted, I've seen this done so much better. The molest scene in the other manga is played very serious at the beginning then it ends with a joke, I think it did that to deescalalate the tension just like the headbutt Elizabeth did. But the problem is that the serious tone KEPT GOING in this it kinda just,, stops and everyone forgets about it and goes home?
In my favorite manga this whole kidnapping was not only foreshadowed VOLUMES before it happened but the effects of it completely shifted the story. It caused the ML to realize he was in love with the FL, the FL was slightly traumatized by the event and she rejects him due to feeling overwhelmed and not believing his sincerity. Y'know, CONSEQUENCES??
I know this isnt exactly super story driven, but if you are going to add stakes and SEXUAL ASSAULT, both very serious subjects, play them serious. What was the result of Bobcuts rape attempt? What's its purpose? Did it effect the characters psyche and actions in any way? NO. That's why this is confusing.
I am fine with sexual assault and similar stuff being plot points but only if you treat it with RESPECT, or at least have a consistent tone. Not just a cheap ploy to add some drama.
