And then she heard she could have more things from other people due to her Believing She Had Attained Nobility.

And when she doesn't get Immediate Gratification from the Highest Authority, then she will... what? Feel Poopy? And cause a scene?

This is such a complicated chapter for me. I appreciate the fact that this manga attempts to humanize Aini, and portray her as well-meaning but incredibly dumb, and perhaps a bit lazy, but… every once in a while there’s just some really crazy unaddressed stuff? Like… what do you mean, the saintess gets confined to the church for baby-making. Aini grew up knowing she was just going to be sold off when she was old enough and now that she’s old enough, even though her status has increased she’ll never actually escape confinement. And the part in the prince’s story where he’s totally unsympathetic to her story, thinking that it’s natural she live as a servant and be hit with a ruler to learn etiquette… first of all, if she actually lived like a servant she would not even be learning etiquette like that. I think you should actually as future king be more concerned about the kind of conditions that allow barons to assault servants without recourse and then own their illegitimate daughters lives completely. Like… dude, if you’re talking with her to understand commoners, you are doing a terrible job understanding!
Also, seriously this situation is so contrived. Like if she had ever voiced the everyone is equal thing and gotten shot down, things well would’ve been resolved. Actually the half of the student body that actively pushed her to disregard etiquette would really make her feel like she wasn’t doing anything wrong, too? Which makes one wonder if this everyone is equal thing happens to not just be Aini’s delusion but a wish of like half of the students attending…

Makes you wonder at what point Aini realizes that her mother's look wasn't of pitying herself, but rather Aini.

I was on the mother's side until I realized that the mother never truly reached out to her daughter through all of her daughter's formative years. Even with the status difference, just not having enough of a want/need to talk to her daughter and offer her comfort was a terrible move if she actually loved Aini. I think she saw Aini as just a symbol of someone like herself and a reminder of the sexual abuse from the baron. So she had empathy, but not love.
