Honestly I'm glad Aini isn't a total bitch heroine like in other villainess, nor is she a pure-hearted shoujo heroine. She's just a normal teenage girl with shitty background.

And honestly, I like that the "antagonistic" characters here are just people whose flaws are exacerbated by the circumstances (and lack of communication lmao)

- Sauri is just coddled by his parents and kept from the truth about his sister. And to be honest, he's completely right about Bernadetta being a terrible teacher.
  • Prince Autismo has no idea what "feelings" and "emotions" are, and just assumes everyone thinks the same way as him.
  • Aini is essentially just a girl who got a big head after a promotion. And to be fair, it does look like the prince is leading her on.
Sort of - he literally states his beliefs and Seraphina also follows similarly - that they should not be ruled by their emotions, and that they must stand above as future leaders. If this were a typical romance, we'd have some dramatic thing that'd showcase his emotional side, but this is meant to showcase the thoughts of the side that doesn't go and cheat with the Saintess and DOES believe in their calling - which is why it's so interesting.

I like that this humanizes Airi a lot. She's just as flawed as the rest of the cast (except maybe Seraphina, who I'd argue is least guilty of that particular general characteristic), and it even makes sense for Aini given her upbringing.
Frankly, it all depends on her reaction to "the tea incident" once Seraphina sets her straight, and whether she's receptive to learning from her mistakes and improving her lot. I'd even go so far as to hope she gets a happy ending, provided she shows she has the capacity and the drive for character growth. And nothing about this series really indicates that she'll get a bad ending, as none of the primary cast are truly villainous.

I think the only person I really feel deserves the wood-chipper treatment is her father, honestly. Raped a servant, treated his daughter like garbage--until he found out she was the saintess, and then it was Exploitation Express all the way. So that guy can rot at the bottom of a dirty well, in my book. But.

I look forward to seeing how this all resolves for Aini, and the knock-on effects for the rest of the cast as things wrap up.
Orva is still a meathead and idiot who deserved to get dumped.

Surprisingly a very down to earth despise this is not happen in earth.

Girl got abused and have no proper schooling while mom is just a servant and powerless, just like how people living before lincoln making a fuss/basic rights for everyone implemented.

Only know the rules are as what is written, explaining her act and eagerness of new ideal world before her. And the nobles around her are just saying do this and that without a proper explaining of the reason and consequences. Imagine telling a child not to play with phone too much but she is already too engrossed on it.

In short this whole problem is cuz people expect a girl in her puberty period to understand, behave and act like an adult just like how everyone in there are ordered to.
The real adult here are just the prince and his fiancee.

This is the more boring result, it would've been intriguing if at least part of her personality was formed by someone intentionally trying to recreate that story about the prince and saintess mentioned before but this is fine.

To be fair to the group, Aini is basically kind of stupid. Aside from taking the school motto overly literally, her thought process is essentially that of one that does not think about the future. She thinks she doesn't need to know this because everyone's equal at the academy but her life doesn't end at graduation. She'll need to know this after leaving the school. Her thoughts really shouldn't be "why do I need to know this" but "why do I need to know so quickly just to go to the academy where I won't use it." Sainthood is tied to one's own natural talent, no one can impeach her or blow up mistakes on her part because she cannot be replaced without another light user being born. Trying to take her to task probably gets you marked as an enemy of the church. Functionally you have to accept that you can't hold her to task about breaches of etiquette like normal. At the very least not within the first few years to learn since everyone knows her circumstances.

rather than a witch, she felt more like Cinderella with more ego who was misguided. even after escaping the baron's family.
She's naive and dense for sure but she a teenager. im sure the people who were supporting her was actually from the church faction trying to push the saintess onto the prince

I just appreciate how human they made the "heroine" here.

Aini is fucking up majorly. But also, she was set up to fail by a lot of people. Her parents give her a sub-par education even for a baron's family. Her mother failed to engage with her properly as a parent. Her tutor was a genius with a knowledge so wide it's hard to communicate while there was a bad influence actively sabotaging it on top of everything. She went from no recognition to overt heavy-handed recognition that she shouldn't take seriously.

She's ignorant and immature, but not a bad person. She got hung up on the face value of things because why would the academy lie about it's policy like that?

In a way its a subconcious escapism. Way before she awakened as a saintess she grew up literally abused and forced to learn ettiquete just for a CHANCE of becoming a noble's concubine in the future. After gaining her miracles and finally free of that torture, suddenly shes forced to do it again? Fat chance.

Aini lacking basic education and it not being realised and corrected, means she doesn't realise that etiquette is essential in their society. Not using etiquette is a less extreme version of forcing yourself into conversations and swearing at people, you shouldn't do it to anyone. It she was taught/realised that it would have stopped a lot of problems before rank was even a factor.

Yay for miscommunication. Boy, I love not conveying my thoughts properly in a way that's clear.

I sure love assuming everyone thinks the same as I do and have the same life experience.

What could go wrong not explaining certain social expectations and just saying you can't do a certain action without making clear exactly why that is?

There is quite literally no defense for Orva, dude was very ready and willing to go down the adultery route

Never like Bernadetta anyway, even during her chapter. She forgot that she had good memory, and thus expect Aini to be able to cram everything within few months. And Aini wasn't wrong about Bernadetta looking down on her (or anyone really).

Aini is fine. Her being 'stupid' is kinda expected considering her lack of education + her upbringing. She is flawed, just like normal humans do. Thankfully she became a better person.

I was thinking just this. For being the super omega genius the series painted her as, it does seem like her inability to teach the saintess, and the problems that stemmed from that (because this all seems to be a failure from her lack of etiquette), seems to be the root cause of everything.
Granted, the brother was the one who kept taking her out and having her avoid the lessons, so the sister may have been a bad teacher, but the brother is a moron who ruined the chance for the sister to adjust her teaching methods to suit the saintess. :thonk:

Makes you wonder at what point Aini realizes that her mother's look wasn't of pitying herself, but rather Aini.
Maybe that's actually what's happening, but it does seem like Aini is right, and the mother is just being self pitying to the point of being performative.
She can't even spare words of encouragement to her child, the one she supposedly pities?
I wonder if there's going to be more with the mother, if that's the end of their connection and the last we've seen of her?

How the hell are people saying the mom is bad cause she didn't raise her daughter? It's writen she was raped and forced to bear the child of the dude who raped her...
Some are saying Bernadetta, who only ever did her best for the peoples around her, is bad and the poor bitch who try to seduce everyone is the victim. Do people not even read?
WTF is going on in this com section?
Aini was given the best life, she could ever dream of, on a plate and her first action was to decide that studying was boring and she just wanted everyone to spoil her.
She is not a victim, she is just a lazy ass who want everythings to be given to her.
She even ignore everyone who told her not do things that would underemine her own future.

Quite Orva!! I love Bernadetta and I will stand my ground for her!!:chad: :chad: :chad:

Frankly Bernadetta is not the best teacher, but remember she is too just a teenage, albeit is a genius forced to play a fool and take the blame if saint goes south, she have to exert caution meanwhile have no idea how to properly teach a BUM to be a DIPLOMAT.

THINK, how much patient you must exert when pressured by boss in job, dumping boatload of work on you while boss go on nice boat. Meanwhile your colleagues are keep making mistakes and putting blame on you for work failure.
Lastly your family just keep saying WHY YOU CANNOT DO BETTER, and your darling is off riding the town, and you even not allowed to get drunk.

Oh you poor, stupid girl.

Way too many peoole failed her. She's naive, but considering her situation and upbringing her behavior isn't that unrealistic.

At least she isn't some reincarnator treating everyone like toys.
