Still can't get over daphie being all like "all the power to her? about a teenage prostitute. God. @princess_daphie don't you know that self-harm can sometimes take form as prostituting one self?? Why are you seemingly taking it so lightly?? Even if she knew it was wrong to "sell herself" to an asshole teacher.
besides maybe the author realized the comparison between underage prostitution and a harmful relationship between a student and a teacher is not comparable and wanted to wash their hands of the storyline. Yeah maki did some dodgy things but getting exploited by an adult is absolutely not one of the things. Scummy and generally immature of people to blame maki for acting out when she is clearly in need of help. I wish you people die alone, unloved and full of bitterness and regret. It is fucked up that maki can even land in legal trouble to begin with for being sexually exploited. Maki just seems like a broken kid.

Hey, those were just my impressions/feelings on the moment (in the previous chapter too, not this one). I don't consider age-gap relationships to be automatically a sign of self-harm or past trauma or whatever. You can think that if you want, but I feel like this is reductive. I was on the fence about how to feel about her and her situation, as we didn't have much information, and we still don't. I'm just happy she got some redemption with her friends, and I hope she didn't have that much trauma like you say she might. I wouldn't wish her legal trouble, unlike the teacher, if you've read this chapter's afterword, that's what I'm saying.

Also, it's just a story after all.

Ah yes you don't have any evidence of the fact and just assume it's happening when you get caught doing actual prostitution. Her feelings don't matter when she was caught doing something wrong and then tried to shift blame when she was engaging in bad behavior of her own volition.

Was she forced? Did the teacher blackmail her? From her dialogue in the last chapter doesn't seem to be the case so why should I give her sympathy when she is doing this of her volition. And here's the thing you deserve being patronized if you get caught doing something wrong. Doesn't matter if someone else is also doing it you still did something wrong.
This is the most vile thing I've read in this thread. It's a teenager with serious problems in a high pressure situation and you are expecting to non chalantly take the "facts and logic" route? Did you hit your head and forgot how was to be a teen?

I can agree that Maki was in some deep shit. Teen prostitution is honestly the lesser crime, blackmailing another teacher is worse. She deserves some punishment
Who blackmailed who? Blackmailing would be if Sakura knew about this situation, told Maki by herself and Maki threatened her to tell the school what she knew about Sakura and Gin. That would be blackmail, not throwing an accusation in a tantrum in front of everyone.

Holy fuck.

That's true, Maki did not quite blackmail. She heard about the nude drawing from Kanegafuchi, then assumed they were having sex. Maki then told Okuda the Scum teacher they were having sex, and that he should start bursting the prep room door in the hope of catching them in the act.

So blackmail is the wrong word, expose is better. Either way she was trying to harm Sakura.

That said my original claim of "teen prositution < blackmail/expose" I think is still true. I think it's worse to harm others than it is to harm yourself. And to be clear, I think Maki was more the victim of teen prostitution than the perpetrator. She's a minor, she has childhood trauma, and Okuda definitely knew better but chose to do sex crimes. She was in a position to be more easily manipulated.

She saw the two doing nude painting and assumed they had a relationship, in truth it was a normal reaction, you don't immideatly assume nude painting in such a scenario, plus you're missing the greater point, how is what she is doing any worse than what the MC and teacher are doing? Both have innapropriate relations that are way out of what a normal student teacher relationship should be and lets be perfectly honest with each other, the author is setting up a romance between the MC and teacher so when that happens are you also going to be pissy about it?

Difference being she is fucking the dude and those 2 weren't fucking each other. Not to mention what they were doing had the twistedness of being for art while she's fucking her teacher because "hypocrisy of adults." So not only is the baseline reasoning just completely different she only threw them under the bus because she got in trouble. Which is just pathetic on her part. Especially when her friend and the MC immediately call her out on it saying what was actually happening because both know it was for art not for sexual relations.

Also the biggest difference between them is both know the consequences of what they were doing. Both know they'll be in major trouble if they get caught. That dumb girl didn't understand the gravity of what she was doing until it bit her in the ass. No I would not get pissy if the MC and teacher started fucking because they would at least understand what they are doing is wrong. This girl didn't and tried to shift blame because she's stupid and think she can rebel against adults by doing the wrong things adults can do when that only makes her a stupid teenager that needs a reality check.

Saki may be equally guilty of what? Being raped? I mean, you can't argue she can be held responsible for a crime when she's a minor having sex with an adult. And who the hell is she supposed to apologize to? Okuda for selling her body to him, when he's the one who should know better?

This is all so completely backwards, and I'm so disappointed for seeing so few people in the comments point this out.

Why did she do it anyway?

poorly executed indeed and taking into account that it ends in chapter 18 this poor execution makes sense
but the way things were handled without much scandal is very similar to the stories we hear from Japan of bullying, harassment and rape being handled lightly

This was solved quickly, a bit unexpected.

I should had seem this coming, with the previous chapter showing that Yukari never explained to Maki what had happened, it was easy to misunderstand what their secret was.
So we can excuse her a bit because she believe that Sakura was having "illegal" relationship with Machida, and inside the school.

I think so too, the author didn't even bother to explain how her mother knew about her daughter and the teacher.

It's a small island, they went to a local Ryokan, of course some people noticed and knew.
And the way Okuda talked he is "a player". Maki probably isn't the one student he got his hands on.
