Oh nice. We're actually considering the psychological impact of murder in this one. Well, killing.

I get that dad is worried, but I don't think Aldo did anything wrong here. They shoulda sent guards to escort his daughter home. At most, he should have requested people come with him.

The art of her eyes reminds me of the Appraisal Lord story. I guess she has a special power to memorize anything she sees and heightened observation ability.

I feel like maybe 5 pages or even a half chapter preferably of set dressing of the area they went to to justify the risk of kidnapping beforehand would've done wonders.

Hell even just setting up a particular level of savagery and ruthlessness as a general part of the settings or in the lower caste of society would very much help the kidnapping and subsequent fight for his life feel less like it comes from nowhere.

Author obviously wanted him put through significant hardships young and early but the setting hasn't done the heavy lifting for the scenario to not feel contrived to me. It can be done retroactively now, or maybe even this event is meant to signal this for the setting but it really did feel out of nowhere.

The flaw in the storytelling for this event is that if the setting is that ruthless as a default or if there's an understanding kidnappings of little nobles is a something that happens then why on earth wasn't there a detail with the kids. Even if it's not why wasn't there oversight on the kids since they could get lost anyway.

I'll see how I feel about this as it goes, thanks for the TL.

Also idk if you got the vibe but just based off the previous chapters he's gonna almost immediately get healed right? Next or next next chapter Ashella will take his hand, thank him for saving her, probably both will have some healthy tears, etc.

at the age of 5, he had already killed someone. MC truly became a killing machine in the future to protect his precious family:chad:

he's not in the wrong, but for him ... his son is priority over the ... a random stranger that was in cahoots with the kidnappers, but thanks to Aldo's words he went from stranger to a parent doing everything for his family too.

yep, author uncooked there with the daughter going solo home, clearly in a town where kidnappings were happening.

still interesting after just solving his love for family trauma, now he has to get peace after killing people, even if it was to protect and save people.

so no confirmation of this being the first time he's kidnapped kids so most likely has been kidnapping, torturing, enslaving and killing several kids before MC got there and now he'll suffer no consequences

Mission complete! You got - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - !

Fighting for half an hour was a bad idea, but better ideas would've had him kill more people personally, so whatever.

Tbh, don't like how the other dude just gets to walk away. Like, yeah, his daughter, but maybe Tug number two was doing it for his little sister that will starve now on the street. It feels cheap to me. Like this dude could be a monster torturing kids and all but gets a free pass now. Ugh...

For the people saying a the mental part is cover in this. MARK my words it will have no impact at all from the next chapter on.

Also why do authors want to have the MC be so young? Why not something like 12-14 or something? Like 5 years old? Like most children can't even read much and this guy is holding out against 5 people that are criminals for a solid half a hour...
This had so much potential but yeah stakes needs to be raised by 1000%

I hear that the greater part of ptsd is the very deep realization that people are trying to hurt you, and there is no way around it besides killing them. Making concrete what is normally a vague notion.
An act of evil, no matter the circumstances. Lots of people can't cope, literally.
Much more accurately: PTSD comes from an extremely prolonged stress event.

People have successfully and happily killed other people for thousands of years with cases of PTSD being so rare that even a single case in an entire army was an extremely unusual and rare anomaly that officers would write about.

Especially for justified self-defense like this one, most humans in history would sleep easy.

However, two things from the modern era make PTSD more common:

1. Modern war gives you 24/7 fear with no stress relief. Being in a trench, or always in range of artillery fire, or never knowing when an IED or suicide bomber might blow up out of nowhere, or thinking you'll get court-martialed for killing someone trying to kill you, will break you after only a few short days to weeks.
(In Afghanistan, it was common to have mortar shots over the barriers of the controlled zone day and night.)
PTSD skyrocketed with Trench Warfare and hamstringed rules of engagement like Vietnam or the Middle East.

2. Some countries people are being raised for the first time ever to think that all killing, even fully justified and Good killing, is bad and traumatizing. This conditioning is weakening their defenses far more than it would be in a more natural mindset. This is one of several reasons why PTSD is only common in some armies and not others.

It wasn't 5 pages, but weren't we told and shown the risk of kidnapping at the end of chapter 2?

The flaw in the storytelling for this event is that if the setting is that ruthless as a default or if there's an understanding kidnappings of little nobles is a something that happens then why on earth wasn't there a detail with the kids.
IIRC, the kids did have bodyguards when they went out, but weirdly Ashella's dad sent her home by herself afterward. Then Aldo went after her without telling anyone.

💯 It doesn't make any sense at all. You'd think a knight commander of all people would know the dangers.

kids body, kids brain, kid mentality just because you have knoweldge from a previous life doesn't make you immune child/teenager nonsense

Also he was a normal dude before not a military person or killer
Imagine that right? Thanks for pointing this out. Just because he's an adult on the inside, it doesn't change the fact that he killed someone and is deeply regretting it.

I swear people are either so desensitized to death or they just don't think and want every protagonist to be mentally strong or a psychopath.
