Not everything has to have a simple and easy ending, or a moral, or even any kind of resolution to be worth reading.

shuu didn't change at all throughout the story so it would be weird for him to suddenly become a better person at the very end. maybe his lack of progress could be seen as bad storytelling but I think his role is to be 1) an example of how broken the world is and 2) a kind of parody of idealists like Kenji. so in the end it's a story about 1) exploring a crazy postapocalyptic society and 2) how much of a dumbass kenji is, not about the MC's personal growth
